I love — with every bone in my body — writing articles and making social media posts. But my heart will always lie in broadcast journalism.
There’s something about reading from a teleprompter with hot, bright Nan-lights washing you in a white glow. Something about the countdown before reading, adjusting the mic, speaking to an audience of about 4,000 students. Talking to the people.
As a two-year anchor for the news, I am the most experienced and longest-serving on our current staff.
I have enjoyed reading the morning announcements, providing story coverage, reporting on sporting events, and even indulging in my own special segment iconically titled “Salsabil Tries It.”
My favorite part of my broadcast work is the connections I have gained from it. I have interviewed countless people and even more have seen the news, making it thoroughly enjoyable and rather easy to continue connecting with others and reporting on their journeys, experiences, and interests.
I am interested in incorporating broadcast into my future career choice as I have gained knowledge about equipment, interviewing, timing, and — perhaps most importantly — how to value the stories of others and try my absolute hardest to make the best productions I can.
